Music & Choir

Music is an important part of our life and worship at St Mary’s.
Music at St Mary’s

The Choir

We have a small but talented Choir under the direction of Alexander Trowell, our Director of Music and Organist.

We are always looking to expand the Choir, all voices are very welcome. The Choir also draws in temporary members for our Christmas and Easter services.

The Choir sings a wide range of anthems during our 10am service and also combines with the choirs of the other churches in our team for special occasions and on visits to cathedrals.

St Mary's Chorus

The St Mary’s Chorus sings at our monthly Worship for All Service.  We welcome anyone interested in joining, children and adults alike.

The Band

St Mary’s Band is made up of adults and children. It plays hymns and more modern worship songs during our monthly Worship for All Service. Young people who have reached Grade 2 or above are very welcome to join.

The Organ

St Mary’s is lucky to house a rare 1840 William Allen organ, rebuilt by William Hill & Son in 1899.  It is in largely original condition, and has been cared for by B.C. Shepherd & Son for a number of decades.  In the 90s they did some significant work including adding a number of prepared for stops.  The organ is now overdue another round of significant work.
